Seguin ISD school board reorganizes; Thomas-Jimenez chosen as new school board president

A new slate of officers was approved during Tuesday night's meeting of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees. The new board officers include, from left, Carl Jenkins, vice-president; Cinde Thomas-Jimenez, president; and Ben Amador, secretary.
 
(Seguin) -- The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees has chosen to move forward with a new slate of board officers. Utilizing board policy,which allows for the reorganization of a school board at anytime, trustees Tuesday night elected Trustee Cinde Thomas-Jimenez as the new president of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees. Also elected was new Vice President Carl Jenkins, and remaining in his position as board secretary is Ben Amador.

Hispanic Chamber honors top business leaders

The Seguin-Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce recently recognized several individuals for their contributions to the community. The Hispanic chamber held its annual awards banquet Thursday in the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum. The list of winners this year include (from left) Tiffany Cooper-Aguilar, Chairwoman's Award; Felisa Ramirez, Patriot Award; Brenda Flores, Businesswoman of the Year; Kyle Kramm, Community Service Award; Ursula Pari, Rosita Ornelas Media Award; Trevor Baugher (Niagara Bottling), Corporate Business Award; Luke Morales (accepting on behalf of winner Dee Carter, not pictured), Academic Merit Award; Vicki De La Rosa, Juan Seguin Award; Jason Luna, Businessman of the Year; and Ernest Leal, Daniel Rodriguez Community Service Award.

SEDC offering job fair Thursday; Local companies looking to fill dozens of positions at hiring event

(Seguin) -- The Seguin Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) is again brining employers and job seekers together during a job fair slated for Thursday in the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum. Josh Schneuker, economic development director for the city of Seguin, says they are encouraging job-seekers to attend the event, and meet with the large number of businesses that are expected to participate in the job fair.

Seguin seniors Ayanna Lavalais (front left) and Jada Jackson (front right) announced their college decisions together last Friday during a signing ceremony at Goldie Harris Gym. The two athletes are pictured with Seguin track-and-field coaches Marisela Galeana (back right) and Amber McKinney (back left).  
 
(Seguin) – Two Seguin High School seniors finalized commitments to continue their track-and-field careers at the collegiate level last week, with Jada Jackson choosing to stay close to home at Texas Lutheran University, and Ayanna Lavalais signing with William Penn University in Oskaloosa, Iowa.

(Seguin) – The Seguin High School boys and girls varsity track-and-field teams each finished third in their respective divisions Saturday at the Matador Relays, contested at Matador Stadium.

TLU sweeps Hardin Simmons with two shutouts, Raycroft earns fifth SCAC pitching honor

TLU junior Maitlin Raycroft is the SCAC Pitcher of the Week for the fourth consecutive week and the fifth time this season. 
 
(Seguin) – Texas Lutheran right-handers Amanda Lochte and Maitlin Raycroft tossed shutouts Monday as the Bulldogs posted 8-0 (five innings) and 1-0 non-conference victories over Hardin-Simmons.
