Seguin Marching Festival this weekend at SHS

(Seguin) -- Strike up the band or in this case, bands! Seguin High School is just days away from hosting its first ever marching contest at Matador Stadium. The Seguin Matador Band program is hosting the Seguin Marching Festival on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Seguin High School Band Director Stan Mauldin says the fundraising event will welcome a dozen or so area bands to the competition. The list of bands include Randolph, San Marcos, Harlandale, McCollum, Stephen F. Austin, Lockhart, Smithson Valley, Bastrop, Nixon-Smiley, Flatonia, Shiner, Del Valle, and Judson high schools.

Students relocated following fire at Patlan Elementary School

(Seguin) -- Students at Patlan Elementary School on Tuesday got an unexpected field trip  to Goldie Harris Gym over at Seguin High School. The students were shuttled over to the gym after a small fire was discovered around 11 in the morning in one of the boys' restrooms.

Leadership Class to focus on Seguin Burial site; Juan Seguin burial site on tap for much needed makeover

(Seguin) -- The final resting place of Seguin's namesake is about to get a major makeover. The Seguin City Council recently gave a Leadership Seguin Class permission to begin its community service project, which calls for the cleanup of the Juan Seguin Burial Site just north of the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum on Nelda Street.

Local man seeks seat on Guadalupe County Commissioners Court

(Guadalupe County) -- An area man is announcing his intentions to run for a seat on the Guadalupe County Commissioners Court. Daniel Kearns is seeking the Republican nomination for Guadalupe County Commissioner Pct. 4. Kearns, who has lived in the area for the last 35 years, says he has seen "first-hand the trials and tribulations" of the county and believes responsible growth and relationships among the cities are the keys to an even greater future.
