(Seguin) -- The vacancy on the Seguin City Council has officially been filled. Jim Lievens was the winner of Tuesday's District 3 race. Lievens will now fill the one year unexpired term of former Councilman Phil Seidenberger.
Lievens says the win is bittersweet. It came on the same day that a funeral was held for Seidenberger, who died last week. Seidenberger resigned earlier this year due to health reasons, and had offered his support for Lievens.More

(Seguin) -- It pays to party hard. At least that's according to members of the Seguin Parrot Head Club. Group member Toni Winters says thanks to yearlong efforts, the non-profit group recently was able to hand out 16 checks to groups in Seguin and New Braunfels.
"This year, we had $26,000 to give away to local charities. If you are in the Parrot Head Club and a member in good standing which means you pay your dues, you have the opportunity to nominate charities of your choice in our area, Seguin and New Braunfels because New Braunfels doesn't have its own Parrot Head Club. So we include New Braunfels. Each Parrot Head can nominate one charity of their choice and then we decided how much money we had and how much we could give away. So we narrowed it down to 16 charities. There were 19 charities nominated and we had a vote. The Parrot Head members get to vote. It came down to the top 16 charities that we donated to," said Winters.More
