SPD encourages safe holiday celebrations; Have a plan, stay safe this holiday weekend

(Seguin) -- Local law enforcement officials say they want everyone to make it into the new year safely. The Seguin Police Department, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office, and state troopers from the Texas Department of Public Safety Office in Seguin will all be out in force this weekend making sure that people stay safe while out on local and area roadways.

Fireworks prohibited in city of Seguin; Authorities remind public about ban on pyrotechnics

(Seguin) -- If you've driven lately just outside the Seguin city limits, you've likely noticed all of the fireworks stands that are open for business during the New Year's holiday period. It's very tempting to pull-in and buy a few Black Cats, bottle rockets and sparklers. But if you live inside the city, you need to remember that fireworks are a no-no anytime of the year.
Carlos Contreras, public information officer for the Seguin Police Department, says it's illegal to possess fireworks in the city, which means that's it's illegal to use them in the city as well.

Chamber encourages businesses to sign up for 2018 Showcase Seguin

(Seguin) -- The New Year will bring with it a new opportunity for businesses to engage the community in 2018. The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce thinks it has the perfect way to pair businesses up with potential customers. The chamber is still signing companies up for its annual Showcase Seguin business trade show. The show is slated for Thursday, February 22 in the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum.

Weidenfeller earns All-State nod, seven Panthers land on All-District volleyball team

(Geronimo) – Navarro senior Hailey Weidenfeller was selected to the TGCA All-State volleyball team and named the District 27-4A Offensive MVP to headline a group of seven Panthers who received on-court post-season recognition in 2017.

(Geronimo) – Another successful football season at Navarro High School produced a predictably strong showing on the 13-4A-Division II All-District awards list, as the district’s head coaches recognized 16 Panthers for their efforts in 2017.
