Gearing up for spring seasons; Baseball, softball, soccer remain popular choices for local families

(Seguin) --  It may not seem like it, but spring is just a month and a half away. And springtime in Seguin, means that kids will soon be heading back outside for a little fun and recreation. Whether it's baseball, softball or soccer -- parents, who want their kids to participate in spring sports, need to get their kids signed up now.

Seguin ISD cheers on its cheerleaders following state competition

(Seguin) -- Seguin has plenty to cheer about. The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees recently recognized the Seguin High School Competitive Cheer Squad for bringing home second place overall in the State 5A Division I competition. The group of girls performed at the UIL State Spirit Competition in Fort Worth earlier this month.

Investigation in home fire continues

(Seguin) -- Two local men are said to be very lucky after escaping their burning home. According to officials with the Seguin  Fire/EMS Department, the fire was reported shortly before midnight Wednesday in the 2100 block of Sherman St. Officials say the men were awakened by the fire that is believed to have started in the back of the house near the bedrooms.

TLU to dedicate new Weston Center for The Performing Arts

(Seguin) -- After months of construction, Texas Lutheran University Friday afternoon will unveil the official opening of its Caroline Weston Center for The Performing Arts. The project which includes the expansion of Jackson Auditorium creates a new TLU Dramatic Media facility and TLU School of Music.

TLU men suffer second 0-2 home stand in SCAC play

(Seguin) – For the second time in three weekends, Texas Lutheran men’s basketball dropped both games in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference home stand, falling to the University of Dallas 69-64 on Friday and to Colorado College 58-54 on Saturday at TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium.

(San Antonio) - Members of the Seguin High School swim team competed at the District 28-5A meet in San Antonio last Thursday. Competitors included Jonathon Barton in the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke, Trinity Cash in the 50 and 100 freestyle, Jesilla Castro in the 100 and 200 freestyle, Allanna Darrow in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, Johnny Palomo in the 50 and 100 freestyle, and Bayler Scott in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. "The swimmers did a
great job today representing Seguin and many had the personal best time for the season in their events. I am very proud of each and every one of our fantastic athletes,” Seguin swim coach Erin Borchers said.

(Seguin) - Senior point guard Christian Martinez scored a game-high 21 points to help the Seguin boys basketball team end a two-game losing streak District 26-5A Friday night with a 55-42 win over Medina Valley at Goldie Harris Gym.
