Candidate seizes late victory in race for county court-at-law judge

(Seguin) -- After leading most of Tuesday night’s race, the incumbent for Guadalupe County Court-at-Law Judge has been upset in his bid for re-election. Judge Robin Dwyer was defeated during Tuesday's Republican Primary Election by Assistant County Attorney Bill Squires. A total of 60 votes made the difference giving Squires the lead at the very end of the night. That lead essentially came in with the help of the three remaining boxes to be counted. Up until then, the race had remained tight and in Dwyer's favor.

Commissioner Pct. 2 race heads to a run-off without incumbent

(Seguin) -- The incumbent in the race for Guadalupe County Commissioner Pct. 2 just couldn't garner enough support for another term in office. Commissioner Ralph "Jack" Shanafelt fell to the bottom of the race for a seat on the commissioners court during Tuesday's Republican Primary Election.

County Commissioner Pct. 4 race headed to a May run-off election

(Seguin) -- It's on to a run-off in the race for Guadalupe County Commissioner Precinct 4. Incumbent Judy Cope will take on candidate Daniel Kearns during the May 22 Republican Primary Run-off Election. Both Cope and Kearns were the two top vote getters in Tuesday's election.

Marion trio to continue football careers with NCAA D-III programs

Marion football standouts Jacob Berry (left), Matthew Quigley (center), and Josh Rodriguez (right) finalized their college commitments during a signing event on the MHS campus Wednesday afternoon. Berry will play at Texas Lutheran University, while Quigley and Rodriguez will join the Sul Ross State program in Alpine.  
(Marion) – Marion High School seniors Jacob Berry, Matthew Quigley, and Josh Rodriguez signed letters of intent to continue their football careers at the NCAA Division III level Wednesday afternoon, with Berry staying close to home to attend Texas Lutheran University, and Quigley and Rodriguez heading to Alpine to play for Sul Ross State.

Seguin powerlifters qualify for THSPA state meet

Seguin High School athletes Ashlee Hernandez (left), Jade Ross (center) and Rebecca Castillo (right) will compete in the THSPA Division I State Powerlifting Meeting in Waco next Friday, March 16. TLU softball up to program-best No. 2 in NFCA poll for D3

(Seguin) – After a 5-1 mark at last week's National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic in Tucson, Ariz., Texas Lutheran Softball jumped seven spots - from No. 9 to No. 2 - in the latest NFCA Top 25 poll for NCAA Division III.
