First Friday Feast
The Geronimo Lions will have its First Friday Feast Steak and Fish dinner from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, January 5 at The Big Red Barn. Choose from a hand-cut ribeye steak or battered fried fish, baked potato, super salad, goodie bread, dessert, tea, and one complimentary beer or wine for just $15. A child's hot dog meal is $5. This month's beneficiary is Guadalupe Valley Christian Counseling Center and entertainment will be provided Tin Roof.

Silver Center Dance
The Seguin Silver Center will have a dance featuring Vernon & Friends from 7:30 to 11 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with $7 admission for Silver Center members and $9 for non-members. A yearly membership to join the Silver Center is $40. Hoop Shoot Contest
The Seguin Elks Lodge #1229 will have its Annual Hoop Shoot (Free Throw) Contest beginning with registration at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6 at St. James Gym located at 510 S. Camp St. in Seguin. The contest is open to all youth ages 8-13 as of April 1, 2018. There is no cost to participate. For more information call 830-491-2748.

Come and Take it Squares Open House
The Come and Take It Squares in Gonzales will offer a free square-dancing open house at 7 p.m. Monday, January 8 at The Presbyterian Church of Gonzales located at 414 St. Louis St. (just south of the courthouse) in Gonzales. Native Plant Society
The Guadalupe Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas will meet beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9 at St. John's Lutheran Church located at FM 465 in Marion. Humane Society Garage/Rummage Sale
The Guadalupe County Humane Society will have a Garage/Rummage Sale at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 11 and Friday, Jan. 12 at the Seguin Silver Center on Court Street in Seguin. Donated furniture, appliances in good working order, and other items may be delivered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday to the shelter located at 2484 N. Hwy 46 until Tuesday, Jan. 9, or call the shelter at 830-372-2055.

The Texas Farm Bureau is accepting applications for its S.M. True Jr. Agricultural Scholar Award, The Dick Mitchell Memorial Scholarship, the Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Scholarship, the Memorial/Honorary Scholarship and its District Scholarship program. Seguin Police Youth Scholarship
The Seguin Police Youth Scholarship Program is offering a $500 one-year scholarship for one 2018 senior at Seguin High School. Items must be submitted to Tricia Mayo no later than Friday, March 2.

AARP Tax Aide Program
The AARP Tax Aide Program will provide free electronic filing (E-File) of Federal Income Tax Returns for the elderly, low and medium income from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays beginning Friday, Feb. 2 until Saturday, April 14 at the Seguin Public Library (2nd floor) located at 313 W. Nolte St. in Seguin. Participants should bring identification and all documents related to filing tax returns. Taxes can not be filed without proper documents. Assistance will not be available on Good Friday, March 30.
