|(Seguin) -- Don't worry if you can't make Las Vegas or the long road trip to Louisiana. The doors to the Big Red Barn will open up this Saturday night for its Second Annual Casino Fun Night Gala. Profits raised at the Texas Agricultural Education & Heritage Center will go to help support programs at the non-profit organization.|
Co-Chairman Kerry Koehler says after a successful first year, the group knew it had to host the event again.
"We had a good year the first year which we made about $13,000 for our education program and so we decided to do it again. This year, we're going to still have the $40 tickets which gets you a barbecue meal, your drinks and your gaming for your casino games. Then, we're also going to have the Texas Hold 'Em Tournament which is $100 a ticket -- which includes your barbecue meal and your drinks while you're playing in the tournament," said Koehler.
Koehler says this year, the group is organizing more games and more opportunities to walk away with some great prizes.
"We’re hoping for a big crowd. Last year, we had about 250 people. They came out. So this year, we're hoping for at least that many and more. We had 72 participants in the Texas Hold 'Em Tournament last year, so we're hoping for 80 or 90 this year. We got more games in this year. We're going to have eight black jack tables, one roulette table, two craps tables, six slot machines -- which we didn't have any slot machines last year. Then, we're going to have one poker table, plus we will have nine Texas Hold 'Em tables where the tournament is going to be held," said Koehler.
The event this weekend will also include a bucket raffle, door prizes and various card games. Koehler says the money from each ticket purchased will go back toward helping the Big Red Barn educate others on the importance of the agricultural world.
"We really invite everybody to come out to help us raise money for all our education programs out at the Red Barn. We are non-profit so we need funds to help us keep our programs going. It's going to be nice. It’s air conditioned -- a nice cool place for everybody to come spend an evening of fun and games. It's pretty tough to go out for $40 and get a good barbecue meal, good drinks and have fun playing casino games," said Koehler.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at Westerholm-Koehler Insurance, Gift & Gourmet, Cascades, Red Carpet Auto Sales or the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce. Tickets will also be available at the door. The casino night fundraiser will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Big Red Barn. In order for Texas Hold-Em participates to eat in advance, it is encouraged that they arrive by 5:30 p.m. The tourney begins at 6:30 p.m.
