(Seguin) -- You have two more days in which to be a contributor to this year's United Way campaign. The local chapter of the Guadalupe County United Way is currently hosting its focus days for collecting funds for its 2014-2015 campaign.
Deborah Eckols, the executive director of the United Way, says although individuals can give at any time, the group is really trying to draw in a majority of funds this week.

"We are getting the word out. We want to encourage everyone to give local. It's so important for folks to know that when they give to the Guadalupe County United Way, their money stays right here in our community. It supports programs and organizations that improve the quality of life right here in Guadalupe County. So local giving has local impact and that's what we want everybody to know," said Eckols.

Eckols says this year's goal for the organization is $295,000.

"Just to let you know in our current year 2014, we are distributing a total of $222,900 to 41 area agencies, but beginning in January of 2015, our new allocation year will start and we will be distributing $217,200 to 36 area agencies. These are agencies that apply for funding each year and the applications go through a process with the budget committee of the board of directors of the County’s United Way and then, they make decisions and awards are made for the following year," said Eckols.

Eckols says thanks to the local effort, any amount donated is spread out among a number of non-profits and charities throughout the county. She says the United Way can be described as a one-stop shop for giving.

"This is a great time of year for people to think about and consider (making) their end of year contributions. We certainly hope that they'll think of the Guadalupe County United Way because we are raising funds in order to distribute them to so many different organizations. You can give to the United Way and your donations are going to go to organizations in our area like the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, our Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and 4-H Clubs, our family violence shelter, the community music academy, the Precious Life Teen Suicide Prevention (and) the children's advocacy center," said Eckols.

Giving is available for individuals and for businesses. Those wishing to donate are asked to visit www.guadalupeunitedway.org. They may also call 830-372-9009. Businesses who would like to get their employees involved through payroll deductions are also invited to contact the United Way office for further information.
