(Seguin) -- Audiences will be learning even more about what happens behind the scenes of a theatre production. The Stephen and Mary Birch Texas Theatre this weekend will present "SONGS (and 10 important lesson) I Learned in Musical Theatre School."
Helping to promote the show is local Theatre Director Sheila Lucas. Lucas says the production is based on the experiences of a very talented actress.
"It's a one woman show, written, conceived by Johanna Johnson from Stockdale. She has been in several of our community theatre productions. She was the lead in our Christmas show last year, the Jimmy Stewart Musical and she was Mary. She's done a ton of stuff, but 10 years ago after she graduated from Baylor, she auditioned for the American Musical and Dramatic Arts Academy in New York City and she got accepted. She and her husband moved to New York for five years so she could study theatre. This is just a memoir of her being in New York and the songs she learned, the people she met and it turned out to be absolutely hysterical," said Lucas.
Lucas says the production further showcases the skills and talents of Johnson who has dedicated her life to being on stage.
"Not only can she sing like a bird, she's such quite an actress. Now I understand, she's a comedian and she wrote it all herself and at one point I even asked her, Joann did you know it was going to be this funny? She said, I'm just telling the truth, I'm just saying what happened. It's very very cute and yes anyone would enjoy it. It's very PG. It's fine for everyone and it's cute as it can be. I hope everyone will come out and see it. It's just a delightful evening," said Lucas.
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. A matinee is also scheduled for 2:30 Sunday at the Texas Theatre.
Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Gift and Gourmet, Keepers or at the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce Office. They are also available online at www.ticketstothecity.com.
