(Seguin) -- HEB is commemorating the opening of its new store by lending a hand to a local non-profit organization. During the store's special preview event on Thursday, General Manager Danny Crowson presented the Seguin Education Foundation with a check for $10,000.
Crowson says with the opening of a new store, it was HEB's way of saying thanks to the community and supporting local education. On hand to receive the check on the foundation's behalf were President Linda Duncan, Executive Director Katie Edwards and Board Member Christy Scheel.
"HEB is proud to serve the Seguin community and communities throughout Texas with fresh food, convenient service and a commitment to hunger prevention, disaster relief, diversity volunteerism, the environment and education. To celebrate the opening of our new store, we would like recognize a Seguin organization. Committed to education and to ensuring that our teachers have the tools that they need to cultivate a hunger for knowledge in our children, the Seguin Education Foundation supports the Seguin Independent School District through fostering creative approaches to education through innovative classroom grants. Since 2004, the Seguin Education Foundation has provided approximately 101 grants totaling over $375,000. The foundation funds creative teachers' initiated projects that enhance instruction and enrich learning. We tricked Linda (Duncan) and Katie (Edwards) into coming today by telling them that we'd like to present them with a small token of appreciation for their work. But really, Linda we want to thank you for all you do for the community. Today, HEB is proud to present you and the Seguin Education Foundation with $10,000 to continue your grants," said Crowson.
Duncan says to be considered while in the midst of transitioning into a new store, it only reaffirms the store's community partnership and commitment to local families.
"We are just overwhelmed and blessed by this donation of $10,000 by HEB. It just shows its commitment to our community. They know that our organization is one that gives back to the Seguin ISD, to the teachers and to the students through our innovative grants. So it just solidifies that we're a great organization that's doing really good things for teachers and for students. We love Seguin just as much as HEB does and we're both committed to making this a strong community," said Duncan.
The new 99,000 square-foot store is located at 1368 E. Court St.
