(Seguin) -- On the day that Guadalupe County gathered to fight cancer, one of its community’s leaders lost her battle. Nancy Ayotte, a former member of the Seguin ISD Board of Trustees, died Saturday following several months of treatment. Saturday was also the day that the community came together to raise funds for cancer research and prevention during this year's Guadalupe County Relay for Life at Matador Stadium at Seguin High School.
It was almost eight months ago, that Ayotte resigned her post on the school board in order to focus on her health. Ayotte, who was the District 7 trustee, served on the school board for 13 years. She served from 2002 to August of 2015.
In addition to her duties on the school board, Ayotte also was an active member at First Baptist Church in Seguin, where she served as both a Sunday School teacher and as a member of the Stewardship Committee.
Ayotte leaves behind her husband, Chris; and two sons, Ryan and Kyle. The funeral for Ayotte is set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church.
