(Seguin) -- The magic of prom has officially gone to the dogs. Seguin's Puppy Prom returns this weekend to Tavern on the Creek. Rolling out the red carpet for the second annual event is the Seguin Animal Rescue Foundation (ARF).
Group Founder Barbara Upper says pet owners are invited to share the prom experience with their furry friend. She says this year's theme is "Furry Tales can Come True" and will include a night of fine dining and dancing.
"This is an opportunity for people to bring their dog to a social gathering. We call this prom because this is prom season. We'll be meeting at Tavern on the Creek in the garden area. It is a party event. You only pay for what you eat, drink, that's up to you to decide. Dress code is non-existant. You wear what's comfortable for you," said Upper.
It's also not too late to enter your pet in the Pet Royalty contest. Upper says some great prizes are up for grabs for the dog and cat that raises the most donations from their friends. Cost to enter a pet is only $5.
"They post things on their Facebook page and encourage their friends to vote for them and it's a dollar a vote," said Upper.
Prizes for the King and Queen winners include a dinner certificate, a special wardrobe, a spa package and the opportunity to represent ARF in the city's Holiday Stroll Parade.
One of the featured events will also be a Chicken Poop Raffle (Bingo). Upper says tickets are $10 each. Tickets are encouraged to be purchased in advance as a limited number will be available on Saturday.
Raffle tickets can be purchased today at Dream On, Moni's Mutt Hut, D6 promotions or from any ARF board member.
"We'll have a $100 dog certificate at D&D, $100 at St. Anthony's Jewelry, $100 gift certificate for gas at Pic-N-Pac, $100 for the (Seguin) Animal Hospital, $100 from HEB. So there's some really good prizes just by playing chicken poop (raffle)," said Upper.
The Puppy Prom is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Tavern on the Creek. The restaurant is located on the banks of Walnut Branch Creek at 320 W. Nolte St.
