(Seguin) -- Palm Harbor Homes in Seguin will be illustrating the word "free" this Fourth of July as it prepares to giveaway a Tiny House to one lucky person.
The local business will be encouraging folks to stop by between July 1-4 and register for a chance to win the one bedroom, one bath Tiny House Cabin.
Marketing Manager Louis Peer says the Tiny House is one of the latest products growing in popularity. He says while people are excited about the $40,000 home, it's not the first time that Palm Harbor has given away something for free. The company, last year, gave away a playhouse during a similar promotion. But this year, Peer says the prize is even better.
"A little while back, a friend of ours posted an ad for a cabin -- one of the smaller cabins that we have here and it trended like crazy on Facebook. We got almost half a million views within about a week. We actually crashed the server several times -- it trended so fast. So we realized 'wow' that's like a huge niche that we haven't really been tackling. So Tim Coverdale who has been with Palm Harbor 20 plus years (and) Seth GM here in Seguin got together and ordered a bunch of these little houses. After talking with the manufacturers and talking to salespeople and corporate and everybody else, they didn't really want to do it because it's so expensive, but we felt that it would be a good splash to get into the Tiny Home market, by giving one away," said Peer.
The Tiny House to be given away includes a built-in porch; a full black appliance package, air conditioning, a seamed metal roof, cedar trim, a flat screen TV mount in the living room plus massive built-ins in the master bedroom.
Peer says the Tiny House concept can be either a new way of living or just that bonus area that you’ve always wanted on your property. He says customers who have stopped by have been impressed.
"We have them in stock so people can come jump through different models and see all these little houses -- one bedroom, two bedrooms, lofts, all of that. We're hoping that it takes off and we sell a bunch of them. We've already sold a bunch of them in the office this month. So we've probably got 30 on order. We're hoping to sell another 30 over the next weekend and we're going to be in the parade," said Peer.
Individuals must be 18 years of age or older to enter. Registration will be held this Friday through Monday at Seguin's Palm Harbor. The drawing will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, July 4. Palm Harbor Homes is located at 401 W. IH-10 in Seguin.
