(Seguin) -- Happy Birthday Seguin! The Seguin Conservation Society is inviting you to spend your Friday night celebrating the city's 178th birthday. The celebration will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the First Church/Campbell-Hoermann Log Cabin Complex located at 200 E. Live Oak St.
In addition to a fully catered barbecue meal, the conservation society is encouraging individuals to cool down with a scoop of homemade ice cream.
Incoming President Kay Martin, says the homemade ice cream is all part of the group's annual contest.
"So we're having a best homemade ice cream contest. You bring your entries at 4:45 down to the First Church building. It's the best homemade vanilla, the best pecan recipe and the people's choice. You actually can vote on your favorite ice cream. That's a big honor to win the people's choice," said Martin.
Martin says not only will they be celebrating the city's birth but the historic properties that are unique to the community.
"All of our properties, we've cleaned them up spick and span. They look great. We have all of our properties open including the Los Nogales Museum and the Doll House and then the Log Cabin and of course the church. That's where the ice cream is. We also have Bill Gibbons. He's a wonderful entertainer. He's going to be entertaining tonight. Also our sheriff's posse is going to deliver the proclamation," said Martin.
Those interested in entering their homemade ice cream may drop off their entries at the First Church at 4:45 p.m. Friday. They may also contact Martin at 830-305-2482. Meal tickets are $12 in advance or $15 each.
