(Seguin) -- The Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce has handed out its top awards for 2016.
Two Business Excellence Awards were presented this year. The Small Business of the Year Award went to the Park Plaza Hotel, while HEB Food Store earned the Large Business of the Year Award.
The Community Service Awards were given to David and Mary Reiley for their operation of Gift & Gourmet in downtown Seguin, as well as all of the volunteer work that they take on each year.
Seguin's first lady also earned a Community Service Award. Marty Keil, the wife of Seguin Mayor Don Keil, was recognized for the dozens of hours she volunteers for a number of organizations, including the Seguin Conservation Society.
Other award recipients this year included Sam Brumley, who earned the Education Committee Award; and Stanley Naumann, who was named this year's Ambassador of the Year. Naumann not only serves as one of the chamber's ambassadors, but he regularly volunteers his time and talents as the official photographer for most community events, including Tuesday's chamber banquet.
Brumley was honored by the chamber's Education Partnership Committee for her dedication to students in the Navarro ISD. Brumley has been the ultimate supporter of athletics in Navarro -- helping to grow the athletic booster club to record levels.
Tuesday's event was also a changing of the guard for the chamber's board of directors. Outgoing Chairman Jeff Fowler says it was a successful year for the chamber of commerce that saw a number of services offered to chamber members. He says they were also able to significantly grow the chamber's membership this year. Fowler then turned the gavel over to new Chairman Mark Long. Long says they expect to work hard and celebrate big in 2017.
The passing of the gavel ceremony and all of the chamber awards were presented as part of Tuesday's 96th annual Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet held in the Seguin-Guadalupe County Coliseum.
