(Seguin) -- You're invited to grab your helmet and take a ride all for a good cause this weekend. In conjunction with Armed Forces Day, the American Legion Riders Chapter 245 will be hosting its fourth annual Nut Run this Saturday beginning at the American Legion Post.
Felisa Ramirez, 2nd vice-commander for the post, says the fun run is designed for both riders and non-riders.
"Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the first bike leaving at 10 and the last bike coming in at three. We're also going to be having this year, some biker games and a bike show in our parking lot. We'll also have silent auction going on in the hall and chances to win some raffle items. We've been selling raffle tickets around the community for the last couple months, but the two prizes that are going to be raffled off are going to be raffled off at the end of the night which will be roughly between four and five p.m. So if somebody would like to buy a raffle ticket. So if somebody would like a ticket, they can show up that day and purchase a ticket as well," said Ramirez.
Ramirez says all proceeds raised are important and go directly into the military veterans' programs supported both locally and nationally by the American Legion Riders Chapter.
"We use the money locally. So we use it for scholarships that we give out for the graduating seniors from the local high schools around here. We also use some of our money to support Boys and Girls State and then throughout the year -- any other type of Veteran activities that comes up or if there's a Veteran in need, we try to use those funds for that as well. But ultimately the big percentage of the money we use for what's called the Legacy Scholarship Program. That's a National American Legion Rider Program. So all the American Legions fundraise throughout the year and then we give a percentage of whatever we collect locally for scholarships for the children of fallen service members so any child that loses a parent after 9/11, they can qualify to get that additional money to go to college," said Ramirez.
Other events include a bike show, bike games, food, music, vendors, 50/50 drawing, a gun raffle and silent auction.
Cost for the Nut Run is $20 for riders and $10 for passengers. Each entry does include a meal. The American Legion Post is located 618 E. Kingsbury St.
