(Seguin) -- Is your child riding around safely in your vehicle? The Seguin Police Department is inviting families to take advantage of an upcoming Free Car Seat Check Event. Save the date for the event, which has been been scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, September 23 in the Seguin Municipal Court parking lot.
Carlos Contreras, the public information officer for the Seguin PD, says car seats reduce the risk of injury to children by 75 percent, but unfortunately 72 percent of car seats are reportedly installed incorrectly. He says that's why next week's car seat safety check is so important.
"We want to remind parents about a free child car seat and booster seat check event. That's going to be (held next)
weekend on Saturday, (September 23) from 9 a.m. to 12 at the Seguin Municipal Court parking lot. The municipal court parking lot is located at 660 S. State Highway 46. We will have certified technicians that will be inspecting those booster chairs or car seats that are in vehicles. We just want to make sure that our drivers, our parents or grandparents that are
transporting our little ones -- little kiddo -- to school to be safe," said Contreras.
Contreras says the PD does ask that the children also attend the safety check so that they can be properly fitted. He
says they'll also be on hand to educate the driver on how to install and re-install the seat. If they by chance still have the
manual, then parents are also asked to bring that along too. Officials say they'll also be on hand to answer parents' questions of whether a child is in need of a car seat or booster
Again, the free Car Seat Check Event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, September 23 in the parking lot of the Seguin Municipal Court Building on State Highway 46 south of Court Street.
