(Seguin) -- Five lives were lost during a pair of head-on crashes reported over the weekend. The first accident occurred just before 7 p.m. Friday at the Guadalupe River Bridge on FM 466.
Sgt. Deon Cockrell, of the Texas Department of Public Safety, says the crash claimed the lives of both drivers. The identities of those drivers have not yet been released. Sgt. Cockrell says the accident occurred when the driver of a 1992 Chevrolet, heading northbound, crossed the double lines -- colliding with a 2011 Kia Soul heading southbound.
Both drivers died on the scene. A passenger in the Kia was also injured and transported to San Antonio Military Medical Center in San Antonio for injuries. Those injuries at the time were described by DPS officials as "serious."
The second deadly accident which killed three people occurred Saturday morning. Seguin Police Department officials say the accident was reported around 11:30 a.m. in the 2600 block of FM 464 on the IH-10 overpass. They say the vehicle described as a Toyota Venza collided head-on with an Oldsmobile Alero -- sending the Toyota SUV off the bridge about 20 feet down. Officials say luckily, the vehicle's impact -- down below -- missed other vehicles when it landed on the eastbound side of IH-10.
The drivers of both vehicles died at the scene. A male passenger in the SUV also died a short time later after being transported to Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Officials say both accidents remain under investigation as they still don't know why the two sets of vehicle's crossed the middle lane and into the other vehicles' paths.
