(Geronimo) -- The Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department is gearing up for one of its most important traditions in October. The VFD will be hosting its annual Bar-B-Q Supper, auction, raffle and dance Saturday night at the Geronimo Community Center.
Longtime Geronimo VFD volunteer Roger Bading says the event is more than just a fundraiser. He says it's one of the largest community affairs for the Geronimo area.
"It's a pretty big community event. We have our barbecue supper with barbecue beef and all the trimmings. We've got silent and live auction both and lots of people of the community come out and see some old friends you haven't seen in a while. It is a big community event," said Bading.
Bading says each dollar raised this weekend goes directly into the operation of the volunteer fire department.
"It's very important. It covers a majority of our operating expenses for the year, plus it allows us to buy additional equipment, update our equipment as needed. It is our largest fundraiser of the year. It really provides a lot of the things that the department needs to operate through the year," said Bading.
Tickets for the barbecue meal are $10 each and will be available at the door. Events get underway at 5 p.m. Saturday at the community center.
To-go plates will also be available on that same day from noon to 2 p.m. at the Geronimo Volunteer Fire Department.
The silent auction begins at 5 p.m. followed by the live auction at 6:30 p.m.
The community center is located off of State Highway 123 in the industrial park across from the current VFD in Geronimo.
