(Seguin) -- Downtown Seguin will all be about the kids this weekend. Connections Individual and Family Services is inviting Seguin's youngest children to its 9th Annual Kids Day in the Park.
Arthur Seago, development director for Connections, says the event is hosted each year to celebrate children while also providing their families an opportunity to learn more about the many services offered by local agencies and businesses.
"This Saturday, the goal there is to provide resources to the community while at the same time letting the kids come out, families come out and have a good time together. Kids get to play games, they get to climb the rock wall, play in the bounce house, enjoy face painting and parents get to hang out with their kids. While they're doing that, they'll have some family time. While at the same time, we'll have different services, our agencies will be there, plus, I think there's about 11 other social agencies that will be out there. They will be providing information about the services they provide to the community. So it's kind of a one stop for folks looking for information or maybe not looking for it today, but six months from now, may have an issue come up. Oh yea, I remember this agency can help me with food or this agency can help me with counseling or my son or daughter is being bullied, how can we help them through it. That's what this is for is to provide that information to the folks that may need it today or may need it down the road," said Seago.
Seago says Connections knows the importance of helping families obtain the various services when needed. He says Connections for years has remained committed to keeping families happy and healthy.
"Connections has been around since 1981. We operate two emergency shelters, one down in New Braunfels and one down in Portland, Texas. We also operate a transitional living home for youth before they age out of foster care here in New Braunfels. Then, we also kind of worked ties into this event (as) we provide counseling to 18 counties, Guadalupe County being one of them. We have a counseling office there in Guadalupe County that we have licensed staff that works there. We provide counseling for families, for children, for youth in crisis. Whether it's suicide, bullying, relationship issues, anger management, that's all provided free to the community. We also have staff that works with the school districts there in Guadalupe County and 17 other counties that they go in and they do drug prevention programs and opioid prevention programs and information," said Seago.
Seago says the most important thing about the annual Kids Day in the Park is that kids will be treated to a free fun-filled event featuring 40 plus activities.
"It's all free. We will be selling some concession items, very inexpensively though. We'll have snack packs, Lunchables, we'll have chips and soft-drinks and water and stuff. They'll all be 75 cents a piece or three for $2 because the items have been donated. The funds raised from that will go back into our programs so that we can do more in Guadalupe County," said Seago.
Rain or shine, Kids Day in the Park will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Central Park.
