(Seguin) -- It's still not too late to enter your pooch for the chance of winning this year's prestigious title of "Seguin Dog Ambassador 2017." A total of five dogs are currently in the race slated for election this Saturday.
Hepzibah Hoffman-Rogers, owner of Thunderpaws Canine Solutions, has helped to organize the annual event since 2009. Votes, which are tabulated through the dollars raised by the dogs and their owners, goes directly to the Guadalupe County Humane Society.
Hoffman-Rogers says candidates can register their pet up until the polls close.
"Well what folks probably need to know the most is that it is a fundraiser for the Guadalupe County Humane Society. We are in our ninth year of raising money through this fun event. If people want to participate or they want the dogs to participate, they can come down to Thunderpaws and for a $10 donation to the humane society, their dog can be entered in the ambassador race. At that point, they have to know its obligations, but if they'd like to-- they can then try and get some more donations from their friends or family, their co-workers, people they can blackmail, whatever it is. Whichever dog raises the most money for the humane society will be named Dog Ambassador," said Hoffman-Rogers.
Previous Ambassadors William, Ipha and current Ambassador Coco can also be spotted raising money as the 'Dog PAC.' However, they will not be eligible for the title. Hoffman-Rogers says the event will wrap up Saturday night at the event's Inaugural Gala.
"Then between 5:30 and 6:30, we'll be having the Inauguration Gala over at the Warehouse. It is going to be dog friendly, but if people bring their dogs, they want them to enter on the Camp Street side. We will announce the winner at 6:15 p.m. and they will get prizes and recognition and it will just be fabulous," said Hoffman-Rogers.
The Warehouse is located at 108 S. Austin St. Interested candidates, again, can register until the polls close at 5 p.m. Saturday. Registration forms must be filled out at Thunderpaws. Entry must include a photo of the candidate plus a $10 donation to the humane society.
