(Seguin) -- Local children are invited to nestle together on the Seguin Public Library's monumental staircase landing for a morning of holiday stories. Members of the Friends of the Seguin Public Library want families to stop by for its Holiday Readings & Stories for Children event this Saturday.

Assistant Library Director Sylvia Christy serves as the liaison between the library and non-profit friends group. Christy says the Friends of the Library readers are excited about hosting the event this year at the library. With the library's new location and new available sidewalks, the event is being held in conjunction with the city's North Pole Stroll in Central Park.

"The Friends have been doing the reading for the park as part of the holiday events going on this weekend. But this time for the first time, they wanted to come in the library and feature the new library for people that have not been here before. They will be at the landing -- the staircase landing that has the stadium seating. They will take turns reading to the children. We have a good number of readers right now for this year," said Christy.

Christy says a number of readers are scheduled for the hour to hour and a half event. She says holiday stories of all kinds will be introduced and shared with local children.

"Usually, we have story times during the week, but not every parent can come with their children because of work or because of school. So this a good opportunity to come in and participate as a family during this Saturday event which is also part of the bigger event for Seguin," said Christy.

The holiday stories will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. The event is free. The library is located at 313 W. Nolte St.
