(Seguin) -- Local families are invited to continue the kickoff celebration of the 2017 Holiday Season in Seguin. Thursday night the city triggered the Christmas spirit with its annual lighted Holiday Stroll Parade and lighting of Central Park.
Today, the Holiday Stroll schedule continues with "a beloved holiday tradition." That's according to Kyle Kramm, the director of the Seguin Main Street Program. Kramm says the annual Sip 'n Stroll returns tonight. The event this year features over 25 "chocolatiers" who will be competing for the best hot cocoa recipe.
Downtown merchants will be staying open late from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. -- offering samples of their version of hot chocolate.
To sample the hot chocolates, visitors to downtown are encouraged to purchase the official 2017 Sip 'n Stroll mug from any downtown merchant or they can purchase their mug tonight at the bandstand in Central Park. This year's mug features a painting of the Park Plaza Hotel by Liz Romero.
In addition to the cocoa, there will be performances by the Lifegate Praise Band and the Seguin High School Starsteppers and Wee Steppers plus pictures with Santa, a nativity petting zoo, wagon rides, food vendors and a snow play area.
Holiday fun is also set to continue early Saturday morning with the third annual Jingle Bell Run. The 5K begins in Max Starcke Park East at 8:30 a.m. Registration for the event is available at www.athleteguild.com.
After the run, families are invited to head over to Central Park for the annual North Pole Stroll. The park will be filled with holiday activities for kids from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.. Some of those activities include pictures with Santa, letters to Santa, a nativity petting zoo, cookie decorating, ornament decorating, reindeer food, and wagon rides. A number of food and craft vendors will also be available throughout Central Park.
Holiday Stroll is produced in cooperation by the Downtown Business Alliance of Seguin, the Seguin Main Street Program, and the Seguin Parks and Recreation Department.
