(Seguin) -- It's time to roll up your sleeves and help give to both the Seguin Police Department Blue Santa Program and Christian Cupboard food panty.
Seguin Radio KWED will again be hosting its annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive this Friday outside its studios at 609 E. Court St.
The Seguin Police Department's Blue Santa program which helps provide gifts to underprivileged kids in Seguin and throughout Guadalupe County is now collecting toys for boys and girls ages 12 and under. The Christian Cupboard, Seguin's food pantry, is also in need of non-perishable food items so that Seguin families don't go hungry.
The annual holiday drive will be held from 7 to 9 a.m. in the radio station parking lot. A number of community VIPs have again been invited to join media employees as they collect your coins, cash, checks, toys or food out in the street.
DARE Officer Hope Vasquez has actively worked as Blue Santa's top elf. Vasquez says there's always a desperate need for toys. She says currently, they are lacking gifts for babies and for kids 10 to 12 years of age.
Small stocking stuffers are also encouraged for kids of all ages. In addition to toys and gifts, Vasquez says Blue Santa is always in need of new or used wrapping paper, scissors, tape and bows. She says wrapping items don't have to be new and can simply be last year's leftovers.
In addition to toys, non-perishable food donations for the Christian Cupboard as well as cash will be collected on Friday from those traveling along Court Street. Food items desired include beans, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter and soups. Other items such as clean egg cartons, recycled bags and toiletries are also encouraged to be donated.
Local school bands will also be returning to perform during this year's Holiday Food and Toy Drive. The Seguin High School Matador Band is scheduled to perform from 7 to 8 a.m. It will be joined by members of the Seguin High School Choir.
Also returning will be the Navarro Band. The band students will perform from 8 to 9 a.m.
Food and toy donations plus wrapping materials can be dropped off in advance this week in the radio station lobby. The radio station is open Mondays through Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and until 4 p.m. on Friday.
