(Seguin) -- The new year for the SEDC Board of Directors started with a new location for its monthly meetings. The SEDC board typically meets the first Monday of each month at the City Hall Annex Building on River Street. The board on Monday had a change of venue for the meeting, and it was moved out to the city's new Utilities Operation Center. The center is located on North Austin Street, north of Interstate 10.
Seguin City Manager Doug Faseler says the multi-million facility includes a large meeting room that the SEDC board used for Monday's meeting. Faseler the operations center represents a major upgrade for the city utility departments.
"Previously the utilities were located in the utility warehouse behind the Seguin Events Complex. They had been there many, many years. (It was) very outdated, and they had outgrown that (space). Now we have a stable, state-of-the-art facilitym with technology and much, much better (and) efficient work environment," said Faseler.
The SEDC got its first look at the building on Monday. Faseler says the rest of the community is being invited to come check it all out later this week.
"This Thursday, we're having our grand opening of the new Utilities Operation Center. Housed here in this facility is our utilities -- our electric utility, our water utility, our waste water utility, as well as our information technologies (IT) department. This is really serves as the backbone of our utility system. We operate a -- we're the 15th largest manicaply owned distribution system in Texas. There's a lot of responsibility. I always tell the guys, utility is something folks take for granted, but one they're not there everybody recognizes that and realizes that. We want to welcome everybody to come out this Thursday at nine o'clock," said Faseler.
The Utilities Operation Center sits on an 11 acre lot, and it has approximately 16,000 square feet of main office space, and 35,000 square feet of warehouse space. The city encourages the community to stop by during the grand opening at 9 a.m. Thursday. The center's address is 3027 N. Austin St.
