|(Seguin) --- Tickets are now on sale for the 10th Annual Denim & Diamonds Gala. The fundraiser, hosted by the Seguin Education Foundation, is scheduled for Saturday at the Seguin Coliseum. |
Katie Edwards, executive director for the SEF, says the group is adding a couple of new features to what is already an exciting night.
"This year, we just wanted to make things a little more casual but also a little more fun. We will start our cocktail hour at 6 p.m. Our catering will be done by three food trucks, Davila's BBQ, Texas Po Boys and Rock On Wheels. We will have six menu items and our wonderful student servers from the high school will be with us again. They will help with some of the foods, so not everybody has to go outside and wait for a food truck. People will be able to just mix and mingle and get their food and enjoy their time. In the back side of the Coliseum, we are going to be having an adult carnival. This is going to be mixing some childhood favorite carnival games that they can earn prizes and some things that might include winning adult beverages. This is just going to be a little more fun and interactive this year," said Edwards.
Edwards says over the last decade, the fundraiser has provided an opportunity for the district and the community to come together in the spirit of classroom success.
"I feel that the Seguin community gives so much back and this is also a time to be able if you can give back to our organization but have a little fun and mix and mingle with some of the teachers at different campuses that you might not be able to talk with on a daily basis, because they are the ones that are educating our children. So we do appreciate that the administration and the teachers come out, enjoy themselves and get a chance to interact with the community as we raise funds for the students and teachers of Seguin ISD," said Edwards.
Edwards says this year, the gala will include both live and silent auctions, cocktails, dinner, desserts, entertainment plus a 50/50 cash raffle.
Edwards says proceeds raised are awarded to various teachers and their classrooms via educational grants. She says the grants provide innovative learning tools to help meet the needs of all students. She says each year, the fundraiser allows for thousands of dollars to be given away district wide.
"We truley appreciate the Seguin community for helping us keep this event going as long as possible. This has been our largest fundraiser for the Seguin
Education Foundation so it has been the key to us being able to provide as much back to the schools as we do," said Edwards.
Tickets are $45 each and includes the meal plus cocktails. Denim & Diamonds gets underway with cocktails at 6 p.m. followed by dinner and other events at 7 p.m. Tickets and raffle tickets can be purchased in advance from any SEF director, at Seguin ISD's Central Office or at Seguin Radio KWED.
