|(Seguin) -- Despite what you might have read on Facebook, there's no threat being made against Seguin High School. The Seguin ISD and the Seguin Police Department both released statements last night over a post that suggested someone was making a threat against SHS. |
The Seguin ISD's statement addressed what it learned about the post on Wednesday night.
"Seguin ISD is aware of the social media post by Ray Andres that is being spread across the country and causing panic nationwide. There is no indication that the post is related in any way to Seguin ISD schools. In an abundance of caution, the information has been shared with the Seguin Police Department. The safety of our students and staff continue to remain our top priority and there is no indication that the safety of our schools are compromised."
The Seguin PD also released a statement. Public Information Officer Carlos Contreras offered words to reassure parents, students and staff that the threat wasn't real.
"Seguin Police Department is aware of social media posts alluding to threats against Seguin ISD - Home of the Matadors students, staff, and teachers at the high school. There is no indication that the post is related in any way to Seguin ISD schools. In an abundance of caution, SPD will have additional officers at the High School ensuring the safety of everyone on campus. The safety of students and staff continue to remain everyone’s top priority and there is no indication that the safety of SISD schools are compromised."
As you might suspect, any talk of a threat of violence would be taken seriously given the rash of school and public space shootings that have occurred around the country.
