Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce officials work to get ready for this year's Showcase Seguin. The business expo opens Thursday in the Coliseum. Doors open at noon. The event is free. Thursday night's Main Event Party is $25 a person. Tickets are encouraged to be purchased in advance.
(Seguin) -- The Seguin business community will get to show off its talents today. That's because today is Showcase Seguin day. This year's theme for the business expo, to be held in the Seguin Coliseum, is "Seguin's Got Talent." The event is sponsored each year by the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce.
Showcase chair KayLynn Hawkins, says the trade show will again be split into two different opportunities -- opportunities that allow the public to interact with local businesses.
"The daytime show is from 12 to four and of course that's free. We want folks to come in, play the wonderful games that we have going on during the day. They can win lots of great prizes. We're also going to have a talent show during that time. So some of the businesses have put together some acts that they'd like to perform for the folks out there. So we're really excited to see what they've got put together. Then the evening event is a $25 ticket. If you don't buy your ticket until you get to the showcase it's going to cost you more. So $25 in advance, $30 at the door. With that $25 ticket you get great fantastic all you can eat food. We've got wonderful liquid fun. So pretty much open bar. Also in the evening you get the opportunity to actually walk the red carpet like the celebrities do and win big money," said Hawkins.
Hawkins says throughout the years, local businesses have grown to realize the importance of being a part of this annual event.
"Our booths are all full. Some of those are double booth spaces and we have some external vendors too so it looks like we have about 55-56 (vendors). So we have a full house. It's going to be great," said Hawkins.
Included in today's schedule is a list of games plus a talent show. The talent show featuring some local business people will be held at 1:30 p.m. Other activities include a silent auction, raffle and door prizes.
Hawkins says once you attend, you are pretty much guaranteed to return each year. She says this year's invitation is especially being directed to those who have never attended the event before.
"Come in during the day when it's free. Check it out. You may think you know what businesses we have and what they do but do you really? So many people coming during the day and they hear us playing different types of games in which those games involve more information about the vendors and they hear something and they go 'wow, I never knew that about these people. That's not somebody I probably would have gone and spoken to but 'wow, now that I have heard that, I might really have to go get something from them or learn more about them. If you like what you see, I can guarantee that there is more so much more to offer for the evening event. So I encourage folks to go ahead and buy that evening event ticket and come and enjoy the festivities. Like I said, they can win so many great prizes. They have the opportunity to win doors prizes and cash prizes but also get to really see these local businesses in a different light," said Hawkins.
Prior to doors opening at noon, individuals are invited to also stop by the event's job fair from 9 a.m. to noon. Approximately two dozen businesses will be on hand conducting interviews and accepting resumes and applications. Dress for Success Seminars will also be presented for free at 10 and 11 a.m. Professional clothing will also be distributed to those needing a little help with their job search wardrobes.
Show Day is free. However, tickets for the night time festivities or Main Event party are $25 each and can be purchased in advance at the chamber office located at 116 N. Camp St.
