(Seguin) -- The Seguin Education Foundation will be celebrating its 10th annual Denim & Diamonds fundraiser by giving adults the chance to be a kid. The SEF says it will be mixing some favorite childhood carnival games into this weekend's fundraiser gala scheduled for Saturday at the Seguin Coliseum.
Katie Edwards, executive director for the SEF, says the carnival will give individuals the chance to win some great prizes -- some in which will include adult beverages. She says attendees will also get the chance to take home some great prizes courtesy of both its live and silent auctions.
"We have a live auction this year that really includes more experiences than items. We have some amazing tickets to a Spurs game. We have a crawfish and shrimp boil combined with a cruise on Lake McQueeney. We have a little girl's birthday party that is going to include hair, nails and a tea party by the Seguin Cosmetology department and just some other unique items. The silent auction will include variations of things from gift cards to baskets put together by the campuses to items provided by businesses around Seguin," said Edwards.
The fundraiser, which initially began with the raffling off of a piece of diamond jewelry, has since evolved into a more popular prize for the crowd.
"This is the second year, we are going to be doing a 50/50 raffle where the winner will be able to split the pot with the Seguin Education Foundation and win up to half of the $5,000 pot. There are 500 tickets available. Last year, the winner received about $2,300 in gift cards. I know that she was very excited to receive that. So it went over well last year. We would like to share that with the Seguin community again. You can purchase those tickets at the Seguin ISD central office, at KWED or from a Seguin Education Foundation director. You do not have to be present to win," said Edwards.
Along with great prizes and the chance to win some cash, guests this weekend will get to enjoy foods from three food trucks. They include Davila's BBQ, Texas Po Boys and Rock on Wheels. Tickets to the event include food and cocktails.
All proceeds raised will go back into the local classrooms through the group's distribution of educational grants.
Tickets are $45 a person. Denim & Diamonds gets underway with cocktails at 6 p.m. Saturday followed by dinner and other events at 7 p.m. Gala tickets and the $10 raffle tickets can be purchased in advance from any SEF director, at Seguin ISD's Central Office or at Seguin Radio KWED.
