|(Seguin) -- It's on to a run-off in the race for Guadalupe County Commissioner Precinct 4. Incumbent Judy Cope will take on candidate Daniel Kearns during the May 22 Republican Primary Run-off Election. Both Cope and Kearns were the two top vote getters in Tuesday's election.|
Cope pulled in 1,075 votes or 42.17 percent while Kearns garnered 873 votes or 34.25 percent. Coming in at third place was T “Jake” Jacobs with 601 votes or 23.58 percent.
Cope, who is seeking her fifth term in office, says she is very familiar with a run-off.
"I really do appreciate all the support and I appreciate everyone coming out to vote. The run off election will be May 22 and it's really hard to get people once they voted to come back out again, but it's more important than ever because you know, it's the time that the person will actually still have a choice as to who they want in office. This is my third run off. So I just really can't tell everyone how much I appreciate the support and the votes throughout the years. My family stood behind me and the Lord will always put me where he wants me. I'll go back in and ask for everyone's help," said Cope.
Kearns says he appreciates the support that has been thrown his way and looks forward to May.
"I tell you what – it’s been a wonderful race. I was running against two great opponents and what they do for the community is fantastic. Obviously, I'm thrilled to be in the run off and I look forward to another two months of great campaigning and getting out there and meeting some more of these folks that I didn't meet before," said Kearns.
The winner of the run-off will go on to face Democratic challenger Rebecca "Becca" Tucker for the seat.
