(McQueeney) -- If you haven't yet made it out to the beach this summer, don't worry. That's because summer fun on an island will be coming to you this weekend during the annual Seguin Parrot Head Club Phling. The Seguin Parrot Head Club is inviting folks to "party with a purpose" during its annual Summer Phling fundraiser. The party is scheduled for 7 p.m. Saturday at the McQueeney Lions Club.

Chairwoman Toni Winters, says the local group is part of a larger organization which works to support local communities.

"We are actually a sanctioned Parrot Head Club and there's Parrot Head Clubs all over the world. I'm friends with people in the Paris Parrot Head Club and we just all love Jimmy Buffet and what he stands for and what he does. It's just fun. It's a fun atmosphere. We do give back to the community. Every year, we have raised more money than we had the year before. So we always try to trump what we did last year. Last year, we raised $24,000 in one night on having fun and we have wonderful people that come and buy our auction items and that's how we raise money and we also have happy hours, once a month, and we meet at different places and we eat and drink and visit and talk about where we are going floating or what concert we want to go to. We welcome everybody. You don't have to be a Parrot Head to come," said Winters.

Winters says the group doesn't want anyone to miss out on a real night of summer fun.

"We call it a Phling. Things with Parrot Head start with “Ph” and it is our Phling and Jimmy Buffet's motto is 'Party with a Purpose' so if you are a Parrot Head, you give back to the community. Parrot Heads party and have a good time together but we also raise money and give it back to the community. So the Seguin Club has our annual fundraiser. It's lots of fun. We have great music by Jerry Diaz & Hannah's Reef. They are what they call a 'trop rock' band. They play fun tropical music. We are going to have wonderful heavy hors d'oeuvres this year catered by Werner’s (Restaurant) out of Shiner and we are having lobster rolls and crab balls and just awesome stuff. We have a wonderful silent auction. So many people in the community have reached out and donated to us and there's a variety of things. It's not just all tropical stuff that you can bid on in the silent auction," said Winters.

Other items on tap for the evening include a live auction, a 52 card raffle plus a Booze Wagon raffle.

Winters says unlike other non-profit organizations and charities, the Parrot Head Club only accepts members who are willing to help others while having lots and lots of fun. She says even the idea and history behind how the group started was simple.

"Jimmy Buffet was doing his concert and he has the laid back, tropical attitude and does his fun songs around that genre and a friend of his was around him one time at a concert and they people that came to the concert were all decked out in tropical ware and had silly parrots on their shoulders and funny hats on and he said, 'look at all those parrot heads out there who are your followers!' That's how it started. We love Jimmy Buffet and his ideals of laid back, relax, beach fun time and also his ideals of giving back to the community," said Winters.

Tickets are $45 in advance or $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased on Friday at Keller Williams Seguin or at Alamo Title in New Braunfels. Tickets are also available at www.seguinphc.com. Tickets can also be purchase by contacting Winters at 830-305-4891.
