|(Marion) -- The first school bell of the year rings today for the Marion ISD. Students and staff are headed back to class for the start of the 2018-2019 school year. Superintendent Kelly Walters Lindholm says the district has kept busy preparing for the students' return. She says the entire district is ready for another great year. |
"We are just very excited about the new year. It's always a great day to be a Bulldog and we are very pleased with all the preparations. Our teachers have been in in-service for about nine days total before the school starts preparing for our students to return. Of course, one of the things that is top of mind is safety and security and a lot of effort has been put into making sure that our staff is trained and prepared and our facilities have been reviewed to make sure. We have added some vestibules and different facility issues with our campuses to make sure that they are prepped and ready for our kids to come back to a welcoming environment but a safe as possible environment as well so lots of preparations in that area to make sure that students feel safe and our parents feel safe sending their students to us," said Lindholm.
Walters Lindholm says as the year progresses, the district will continue to have watchful eyes on growth. She says although it remains quite steady at the moment, growth is no doubt on the horizon for the Marion ISD.
"We are anticipating growth. Our project enrollment is up a little bit. At the same time, the roof tops are coming in for us out here and it's slow and steady so it's not a significant jump but we are expecting pretty much throughout the course of the year and probably from this point going forward to have more and more students entering our classrooms just with the additional rooftops and the district as a whole," said Lindholm.
The first bell for classes at Krueger and Karrer Campuses will ring at 7:40 a.m. Parents are also reminded that both of these campuses will release five minutes later than last year at 3:05 p.m. Classes at both the middle and high schools will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. with release at 4 p.m.
Today also marks the first day of school for the Navarro ISD. The Seguin ISD won't return until Thursday.
