|(Seguin) -- Talk of a proposed bond issue for the Seguin ISD continues tonight. The Seguin ISD Board of Trustees will host a board workshop to further discuss the proposed facility projects totaling $64.7 million. The projects were first presented to trustees during a similar board workshop held last month.|
Projects topping the proposed list of needs for the Seguin ISD include $3.9 million for the renovation of Jefferson Avenue Elementary School, $17.3 million for the rebuild of Matador Stadium at its current site at Seguin High School and the $39 million campus wide renovation of A.J. Briesemeister Middle School.
Other items proposed to the school board for consideration include $18 million for outdoor ADA accessible playscapes, play area and shade canopies for all Seguin ISD elementary schools (Jefferson, Koennecke, McQueeney, Patlan, Rodriguez, Vogel and Weinert), a $1 million land purchase for the future replacement of McQueeney Elementary School and $1.7 million of various campus improvements to include drainage, HVAC, plumbing and furniture.
According to district officials, the items being proposed now are those that the facilities committee felt were a top priority for the district as a whole.
They say proposed items such as a land purchase also goes to help lay the groundwork for other projects that have been determined necessary for the future. For example, the land purchase will help the district inch closer to an even later goal -- the goal of constructing a brand new McQueeney Elementary School at a different site.
In coming up with the proposed projects, members of the Seguin ISD Facilities Committee spent countless hours over the last several months finalizing its proposal to the school board. During that time, the facilities committee toured each Seguin ISD campus including those that are currently vacant.
Committee members are expected to be in the audience again tonight as trustees further discuss these projects, their financial implication on taxpayers, as well as the expected timeline should the board move forward with the ordering of an election.
Also on the agenda for tonight's workshop is discussion on the evaluation goals for Seguin ISD Superintendent Matthew Gutierrez.
The Seguin ISD board workshop gets underway at 6:30 p.m. in the Seguin ISD Board Meeting. The workshop is open to the public.
