(Seguin) -- If you pay your City of Seguin utility bills online, make sure you are using the city's official online bill payment site. That's a reminder from Morgan Ash, the public information officer for the city of Seguin. Ash says the city wants to do its part to make sure that there are convenient ways to pay that monthly bill.

"We all know that we can come to city hall, write a check, drop it off to pay your utility bills. You can even drive through our convenient drive thru, but if you don't want to leave your house or you want to pay from your cell phone, we do have an option that you can pay your utility bill online. You just have to go to our city of Seguin website www.seguintexas.gov and then click pay your bills online and it takes you to a site that is affiliated with the city that we work with that takes a payment through your credit card online," said Ash.

Ash says the city is also hoping to provide residents with the correct steps in making that online payment. She says unfortunately, accessing the wrong internet site could lead to problems.

"This kind of came out of the fact that a few people attempted to pay their bills online using an unofficial city site," said Ash.

Although a convenience, Ash says the service to pay those bills online does come with an additional charge.

"There's a small percentage fee that goes with that because anytime you use your credit or debit card, it cost money to use those things. Since we're a city entity, we don't want to use our tax dollars to supplement our credit and debit payment. It's a small quick fee, but it's definitely worth it when you want that convenience," said Ash.

To pay your utility bills online visit the city's homepage: www.seguintexas.gov, scroll to the bottom of the page and click the 'Pay Bills Online' button. You can also go directly to the site at www.municipalonlinepayments.com/seguintx. City officials warn that if residents use another website not affiliated with the city, their payment may not make it to the city on time or at all. The Utility Billing Department can be reached by calling 830-401-2460.
