(Seguin) -- The collection of donations continue today for Seguin High School's band trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City. Seguin Radio KWED on Monday launched its 5 Days of Giving Cash for Carnegie Campaign in hopes of helping the band reach the remaining $20,000 needed for the trip.
Tammy Bargfrede, band booster trip coordinator, says now through Friday, donations will be accepted at KWED, Gift & Gourmet, First Commercial Bank, First National Bank of Beeville and First United Bank. Bargfrede says donation jars can be found inside of each of the locations. On Monday, a total of $465 was collected. The band is looking to pull even more support as the days continue.
"Most bands have about a year to prepare for a trip of this magnitude. The Seguin Matador Band was given this opportunity in late October to perform at Carnegie Hall after another band program backed out of their commitment. That being said, the Seguin Band Boosters had not prepared financially or budgeted for the additional expenses that may incur in a trip of this size," said Bargfrede.
Bargfrede says there is an urgency to collect as much of the funds as possible this week. She says deadlines to cover the costs are just around the corner. She says while each student is responsible for raising their own contribution to the trip, the $20,000 is to help fund those additional costs such as meals, instrument and equipment travel costs, and to cover all the baggage fees.
"My concern is that some of our families are already struggling to come up with the initial cost of the trip for their student. Now, we're asking them to come up with an additional $200- 300 to help cover their luggage and meal expenses. These additional expenses are something the boosters would really love to cover for the students. We are asking the community to come out support the band boosters in our efforts to raise these additional funds that will take care of these expenses," said Bargfrede.
The Five Days of Giving continues today and runs through Friday. KWED each day will announce the daily collection for the campaign. Sponsorship checks can also be made by contacting Bargfrede at 830-560-0032.
