(Seguin) -- Get ready to "Knock Out Hunger." After almost a 20 year hiatus, The Zonta Club of Seguin is hoping to revitalize a group favorite by hosting a bowling event on Sunday at Pin Twist Bowling and Family Entertainment Center. Proceeds from the event will go to the San Antonio Food Bank which supports local food pantries here in Seguin.
Sharon Illhardt, co-chair of the bowling fundraising committee, says the Zonta Club of Seguin, for years, hosted a two day bowling tournament at the bowling alley, formerly known as Sports West. She says the group, however, was forced to discontinue the tournament due to rising costs associated with the event -- an event used to award college scholarships and donations to charitable organizations. Illhardt says this Sunday, the Zonta Club, is pleased to be returning to its longtime tradition.
"We have not had the bowling tournament in about 20 years. We would like to bring back a fun bowling event for the community not as a tournament but just a fun event for all individuals whether they're bowlers or have no bowling experience and use this opportunity to raise money for the local food pantries' use," said Illhardt.
Illhardt says the groups is thankful to Pin Twist for providing people a great opportunity to have fun and give back.
"Well all adults are welcome. We're not going to use the little bumper pads for the alleys, but we can certainly encourage all ages. We'd like for people whether they have experience with bowling or no experience with bowling to come out and just have a good time. They can come out and register at the bowling alley about half an hour before the bowling time slot or they can certainly contact me ahead of time to get a registration form and get that information to us so we can already have their lane assigned," said Illhardt.
Bowling times are from 1 to 4 p.m. or from 4:30 to 7:30 pm.
Illhardt says donations and other ways to give will also be made available for all those who stop by.
"We love to have sponsors that could help donate to the cause as well. We are going to have a 50/50 drawing during the bowling session. That could certainly help somebody to earn another prize before they go home that day. We're really hoping that the community -- because they've always been so helpful and donate to the food pantries and Christian Cupboard and others throughout the community -- that they'll come out and have a good time," said
