(Seguin) -- Seguin is invited to a night of music, art, theater and dance. Seguin High School tonight will presents its 2017 Fine Arts Collage. Due to construction at the high school, the free event will be held this year at Barnes Middle School.
Mark Buley, the director of fine arts for the Seguin ISD, says the two hour event provides various blocks of interest from across the fine arts department.
"The idea behind the arts collage is to be able to feature all of our arts programs in one venue at one time so that the community can come and pick and choose what they would like to see. Many times in school performances, it's just a band concert or just a choir concert and this is to highlight our very best kids doing solo works, individual things, as well as the team performances like the dance team and the color guard, but for the community to be able to come out in a block of two hours and go to the different venues and see the different kids doing different things. That's the idea behind it, is to be able to showcase the groups all at one time," said Buley.
Buley says the arts collage is a great way to experience the various programs all under one roof.
"Seguin High School's Fine Arts Collage is set up to where the community can come in and view any of the fine arts programs -- students participating in performances, students showing visual artwork. We have different areas of the school where the students will be performing and displaying their work. The two band halls will be used for choir and instrumental band music. The mariachi will be performing in the choir hall. The dance team and color guard group from the band will be performing as well as dance classes will be performing in the gymnasium and in the entry hall and hallways at the school, as for walk through art exhibits -- will be out from our high school art students," said Buley.
Buley says the event might even prove beneficial or helpful to incoming freshman students who are currently in the process of determining their high school pathway.
"The middle school students are just finishing up choice selection sheets within the next couple of weeks for high school classes and many of the kids at the middle school level have some fine arts background that they'll go and continue into high school. This is a great opportunity for everyone to see just what all the high school has to offer because we're very very proud of all of our fine arts department programs and they're all excellent programs. They're award winning at regional and state contest and we're just excited to showcase fine arts programs to the community," said Buley.
The SHS Fine Arts Collage will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Jim Barnes Middle School. Guests are encouraged to arrive early so that they can review the night's schedule in advance.
