(Seguin) -- Seguin is invited to come out and walk in celebration of life. Precious Life Services is encouraging individuals and families to sign up for its annual Celebration of Life Rally, Walk-a-thon. The event being hosted by the suicide prevention organization is being planned for this Saturday at 11 a.m. on the campus of Texas Lutheran University.
Organizers say suicide is a national health problem that takes an enormous toll on family, friends, co-workers, as well as the entire community. They say in deciding to walk, individuals will be doing his or her part in making suicide preventation a national priority.
Precious Life Services, a local non-profit, recently teamed up with the Seguin Police Department, the Guadalupe County Sheriff's Office and the office of Seguin Mayor Don Keil in proclaiming Saturday, March 4th as "Precious Life - Celebration of Life Day.
The proclamation reads, "young Texans should have every opportunity to successfully mature, looking forward with eager anticipation toward the promise of the future; and tragically, however, this does not always occur, and instead, some young lives are lost as a result of suicide; and suicidal behavior."
It further states that the "Precious Life Suicide Prevention and Intervention organization is, as its name implies, focuses on suicide prevention and also on the importance of fostering security, success and stability; and annually, the organization reinforces the importance of this issue through an awareness initiative, "Celebration of Life."
Those who work with Precious Life say they take on every effort to ensure that families and friends are fully aware of warning signs and the options available to prevent suicide.
The walk will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at the corner of Kingsbury and Fleming Streets. A rally will follow at the Seguin Silver Center located at 510 E. Court St.
