(Seguin) -- Everything art will be on display this weekend as the city of Seguin gears up for its annual ArtsFest. Held the first Saturday in March, ArtsFest is the celebration of all arts while raising money for the restoration of the Klein Opera House into the future Seguin Art League's Center for the Arts.
Events begin in the morning with bubbles, foam and a jell-o slip and slide during the annual Run to Create. Kyle Kramm, Main Street and CVB director, says events include a 1K for kids at 9:30 a.m. followed by a 5K at 10 a.m.
"The fun begins in the morning with a fun run where the runner becomes a piece of artwork. Runners will make their way around the Starcke Park Pecan Bottom Trail and go through four different stations. Its suggested that runners wear white clothing to start with a blank canvas. Register through the Athlete Guild," said Kramm.
Kramm says vendors and other scheduled events are also slated during this year's ArtsFest Market in downtown Seguin.
"Artisans will set up around Central Park selling handmade crafts, jewelry, art and more from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Throughout the day, enjoy live entertainment from area nonprofits and schools. Entertainment includes the TLU Community Music Academy, Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin and the Unicycle Fiddler brought to you in part by the Mid-Texas Symphony. Also at the ArtsFest Market at 12:30 p.m., pets will get to join in on the fun for the Poochanga - decorate your pet in an artistic costume and enter them to win prizes. Register your dog at Thunderpaws Canine Solutions in downtown Seguin. Registration is $10," said Kramm.
Kramm says talent is also expected to take the spotlight at this year's round of poetry readings.
"Seguin is full of talent and some of that talent will be on display at the Seguin Public Library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. where local performers and poets will read their favorite pieces. The library is located at 313 West Nolte Street," said Kramm.
The day's events will culminate with an evening reception dubbed, "CelebARTe." Kramm says the evening affair is being planned at the Texas Theater.
"The evening will include delicious food from Tavern on the Creek, local wine and beer, a silent auction, art sale and live entertainment from the Seguin High School Band who are on their way to Carnegie Hall. Enjoy a relaxing evening of socializing, music, fun and art. The award for the Outstanding Contributor to the Arts will also be presented that evening. Tickets to the event are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Court Street Coffee Shop, Gift & Gourmet and the Seguin Visitors Center."
A Kids Art Show and Reception is also planned on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Seguin Heritage Museum.
