(Seguin) -- This year's Noche De Gala competition will indeed be a family affair.
That's according to organizers who say that the mariachi singing competition set for this Saturday at Texas Lutheran University's Jackson Auditorium will be interesting in large part to the family contestants who will be taking the stage. The 32nd annual event is hosted by Teatro De Artes De Juan Seguin.
They say this year's events will feature, for the first time since its founding 31 years ago, family vocalista presentations. The competition will include entries of a father/son, two sisters, two brothers, and a group of four siblings, respectively.
"We always pride ourselves in making Noche de Gala a family-oriented event, "said Yvonne De La Rosa, Teatro's executive director. "We are very excited about the premiere of family vocalistas taking the stage this year."
This year, there will be a total of 18 contestants.
Vocalistas will compete in four categories: youth ages 5-11, youth ages 12-13, amateur, and professional. Alphonso Rincón, the evening's master of ceremonies, will introduce the contestants while Mariachi Las Alteñas, an "all female mariachi" from San Antonio, will provide live music for each singer's presentation.
The evening program will also include a performance by Ballet Folklórico De La Rosa.
General admission tickets are $8. Tickets can be purchased in advance at Davila's BBQ, the Seguin-Guadalupe County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Seguin Area Chamber of Commerce office or at Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin's Cultural Center located at 921 W. New Braunfels St. A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door.
Reserved seats are $10 and are only available at the Teatro de Artes location.
Teatro de Artes de Juan Seguin is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1982. Its mission is to promote the Mexican American arts.
