(New Braunfels) - Wimberley relegated Navarro to the No. 2 seed from District 27-4A in the upcoming boys basketball playoffs by handing the Panthers a 63-56 loss in Friday's first-place tiebreak game at New Braunfels High School.
The co-district champions both went 6-2 against 27-4A competition and split their head-to-head meetings during the regular season. Friday's result means that Navarro (19-9) will open the Region IV playoffs against Canyon Lake, the No. 3 seed from District 28, in a bi-district matchup at New Braunfels-Canyon on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Navarro guard Isaiah Grant led all scorers with 23 points, and Garrett Weaver reached double figures as well with 14. Tanner Law finished with nine, Tanner Whitson six, and Will Eveld four.
The Panthers trailed 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, and 29-23 by halftime. Wimberley won the third period 19-13 to take a 12-point cushion, 48-36, into the fourth quarter. Navarro was only able to slice four points off the deficit by the final buzzer.
