(Seguin) - The Marion girls basketball team bowed out of the UIL playoffs in the 3A Region IV tournament semifinals Friday night, falling to Goliad 64-43 at Seguin's Goldie Harris Gym.
The Bulldogs hung tough for a quarter and trailed 17-15 at the end of the first period, but Goliad reeled off a 26-11 run in the second quarter to take a 43-26 lead into halftime, and erased any thoughts of a Marion rally by winnin the third period 16-5.
Madelyn Abrameit led Marion in scoring with 16 points. Stacey Radtke added nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots. Brianna Randle finished with eight points, and Alex Leos chipped in five. Madison Batey and Samantha Hopper each coralled eight rebounds, with Batey scoring four points and Hopper adding one point and three assists.
Marion made its seventh regional tournament trip in Kollyn McWhinney's 13 seasons as head coach despite losing the team's scoring and assists leader, point guard Natalie Deml, to an ACL injury late in the regular season.
The Bulldogs finish the 2016-17 season with a final record of 27-9.
