Cortlin Buchanan Emiko Hemphill Kirstyn Bode
(Seguin) – Seguin High School seniors Cortlin Buchanan and Kirstyn Bode received first-team recognition on the 26-5A All-District girls basketball team, and fellow senior Emiko Hemphill was honored as the District Co-Newcomer of the Year.
Buchanan, a 5’5” shooting guard, was a first-team All-District selection for the second straight season after averaging a team-high 15.2 points per-game.
Bode, a 5’8” forward, averaged 7.3 points per game and provided the Matadors with a consistent perimeter defensive presence.
Hemphill, a 5’10” forward in her first year of varsity basketball after transferring to Seguin in the off-season, led the team in rebounding (8.1) and steals (2.3) while averaging 5.4 points per game.
The Matadors’ 6’1” junior post Desiray Rodriguez landed on the All-District second team. Senior guards Aliya Ramon and Renae Ramon, along with senior forward Ashley Strawder, made the Honorable Mention list.
Seguin had ten student-athletes earn Academic All-District recognition – Buchanan, Bode, Strawder, Renae Ramon, Rodriguez, Jessi Herbold, Leandra Priestly, Hanna Patek, Dee Briones, and Carsyn Dietz.
The Matadors finished fourth in District 26-5A with 9-5 district record, went 19-13 overall, and made their second straight appearance in the UIL playoffs under fifth-year head coach Mollie Langwell.
