Seguin Big Leaguers open Southwestern Regional tonight
(Seguin) – Seguin Little League’s Big League Baseball All-Stars will be the host team in this week’s Southwestern Regional Tournament in La Vernia.

The tournament’s winner will move on to the Big League Baseball World Series in Easley, South Carolina next week.

The Seguin All-Star team is comprised of several current and recently graduated Seguin High School players, as well as players from Navarro, New Braunfels, and Stockdale.  Seguin qualified for the Southwestern Regional by sweeping La Vernia in two games (6-3, 9-7) for the District 31 championship.

Seguin opens the event tonight with a 5:30 p.m. first pitch against Alexandria, Louisiana.

Other All-Stars teams competing in the Southwestern Regional include New Mexico, Orwall National, and Mississippi.

The tournament format is double elimination.  If Seguin wins tonight, it advances to face New Mexico in the winner’s bracket on Wednesday at 5:30.  A loss would drop Seguin into an elimination game matchup with the loser of Orwall National and Mississippi on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
