(Geronimo) – The Navarro High School volleyball team competed admirably, but ultimately came up short against an opponent from a much bigger school Tuesday night.
The Class-4A Panthers fell to Class-6A Clemens in four games at the Navarro Events Center in Geronimo.
Navarro took the Buffaloes to extra points a tightly contested first game, but eventually fell 31-29. Clemens controlled game two with a commanding 25-16 win, but the Panthers rebounded to extend the match with a 25-23 victory in game three. The Buffaloes ended Navarro’s hopes of an upset with a 25-17 win in the fourth game.
The front row duo of Brooke Brumley and Summer Sahd paced the Panthers’ attack with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Brumley also served the team’s only ace. Alesandra Wezeman set for 38 assists on the night.
Defensively, Shannon Thompson was all over the floor with a team-high 25 digs, and Sahd collected 22. Thompson and Wezeman each came up with two blocks.
Navarro’s record is 7-3. The Panthers compete in the Bastrop-Cedar Creek Tournament today, Friday, and Saturday.
