Panthers roll Brahmas in three, ready for Seguin tourney this weekend
(Stockdale) – The Navarro High School volleyball team made the short drive to Stockdale for a road match Tuesday night, and the Panthers made short work of the host team with a 3-0 sweep of the Brahmas.

Navarro cruised through the first game 25-10, followed with a 25-11 victory in game two, and closed out the match with a 25-18 win in the third stanza.

Brooke Brumley put away 11 kills to lead the Panthers offensively.  Summer Sahd turned in a strong all-around performance with eight kills, three service aces, and a team-high 16 digs.
Shannon Thompson was also a big factor defensively with 15 digs while serving for two aces.

Setter Alesandra Wezeman distributed 25 assists and sent a team-high four aces over the net.

The win over Stockdale followed a 5-3 weekend at the Bastrop-Cedar Creek Tournament last Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

The Panthers opened Cedar Creek’s event on Thursday with a 2-1 loss (10-25, 26-24, 25-21) to the same Stockdale team they swept just five days later.  Navarro rebounded that day to beat Orange Grove in two straight (25-16, 25-12) and Magnolia West in three (30-29, 17-25, 25-16).

Friday’s action at Cedar Creek saw the Panthers defeat Luling in three straight (25-10, 25-15, 25-4) and suffer a sweep at the hands of Round Rock-McNeil (25-21, 25-21, 28-26).

Navarro concluded the Cedar Creek tournament on Saturday with a 2-0 loss to Bryan-Rudder (25-18, 25-23), a victory in two straight over Cedar Creek (25-18, 25-15), and another 2-0 win over Bryan (25-19, 29-27).

The Panthers take a 13-6 season record into Seguin’s Matador Invitational Tournament, which begins today and runs through Saturday.

Navarro’s pool-play schedule at Tom Crump gym today includes matches against San Antonio-Fox Tech at 1 p.m., San Antonio-Marshall at 3 p.m., and Victoria-East at 5 p.m.
