(Columbus) – The Marion girls basketball team used a balanced attack to power through the bi-district round of the 3A Region IV playoffs Tuesday night with a commanding 62-44 win over Van Vleck at Columbus High School.
Samantha Hopper poured in 19 points to go with five rebounds, four steals, two assists, and two blocked shots.
Madelyn Abrameit added 14 points, four rebounds, a team-high four assists, and a pair of steals.
Stacey Radtke contributed 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, three blocks, and two steals.
Alex Leos shared the team lead in assists with four, and chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and two steals. Brianna Randle corralled a team-high 10 rebounds to go with six points. Madison Batey also scored six points and came up with seven rebounds.
The game was competitive early, with each team scoring 15 points in the first quarter. Marion snapped the tie with 17-9 run in the second period to build 32-24 halftime cushion.
The Bulldogs won the third quarter 15-9 to take a 47-33 lead into the fourth, and edged Van Vleck 15-11 in the final frame to notch the 18-point win.
Marion advances to face Blanco in the area playoffs this Friday at 7 p.m. at San Marcos Academy. The game will air live on KWED 1580 AM and Seguintoday.com, with pre-game coverage at 6:45.
