Marion crushes Florence to move back above .500

(Marion) – The Marion High School football team heads into its bye week with some positive momentum after cruising past Florence 57-17 in the Bulldogs’ final non-district game Friday night at Veterans Stadium.

Jacob Berry ran for 141 yards and two touchdowns to lead Marion offensively. Tayler Mills threw for 136 yards and two scores while also running for a touchdown. Ray Rayos and Nathan Newman each found the end zone once, with Newman’s score coming on a 63-yard run.

Jackson Allen, Jacob Wallace, and Matt Quigley each caught touchdown passes. Wallace led the receiving corps with 83 yards on five catches. Brevin Wilson and Francisco Duran each recovered fumbles.

The Bulldogs out-gained the Buffaloes 496 total yards to 268.

Marion is idle this week and takes a 3-2 record into District 13-3A-Division I play, which starts Oct. 13 with a home game against Ingram-Moore.
