TLU women defeat Dallas, fall to UT-Rio Grande Valley
(Seguin) – The Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team blanked the University of Dallas 2-0 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference match at home on Friday before dropping a non-conference contest to UT-Rio Grande Valley 6-0 on Saturday in Edinburg.

Raquel Morris led TLU in shots with six total and three on goal in Friday afternoon action at Gustafson Field against Dallas.

The Bulldogs are 3-6-1 overall and now have a 3-2-1 mark in conference play.

Stephanie Barrientos and Mikaela Gilbert split time between the posts in the 90 minutes of play. Barrientos made two saves for the Bulldogs.

Shots a plenty for TLU, outshooting the Crusaders 32-5 (16 shots in each period). The Bulldogs registered 11 corner kicks to UD's one.

Calista Goode opened up scoring for the match in the 11th minute of play. With a pass down the right side from Morris, Goode shot cross and sunk the shot in the bottom left corner of the net.

Jaclyn Smolik made the insurance goal from 15 yards out in the 19th minute. The shot was unassisted.

Saturday, UT-Rio Grande Valley kicked off scoring in the first 41 seconds of play and maintained a strong defense, holding the Bulldogs to three shots total (two on goal) throughout the 90 minutes of play.

Bailey Nimtz lead the squad attempting all three shots, but Erica Gonzalez for the Vaqueros allowed no goals.

TLU keepers, Stephanie Barrientos and Mikaela Gilbert split time in the box, both allowed three goals. Gilbert tallied seven saves for the Bulldogs, and Barrientos added four.

The Bulldogs resume conference play this Friday with a home match versus Centenary College. The match is set for 5 p.m. at Gustafson Field in Seguin, Texas.

TLU men drop SCAC matches to Dallas, Colorado College
(Seguin) – The Texas Lutheran men’s soccer team dropped two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference matches over the weekend, falling at home to the University of Dallas 1-0 on Friday and to Colorado College 1-0 on Sunday.

Friday, The Crusaders out shot the Bulldogs 17-11. The keepers, Brendan Soto for TLU and Sean Carlin for UD, held strong in the goals making eight and five saves, respectively.

Nat Kajiwara for the Crusaders scored the game winning goal at 52:00. The shot was assisted by Chase Reynolds.

Jackson Silverstein scored the match-winner for Colorado College with a shot in the 82nd minuteon Sunday. Silverstein took a fee from Keenan Amer and found the far right corner of the net from about 12 yards out.

The Tigers moved to 7-2-2 overall with the conference victory.

TLU dropped to 2-7-2 overall with the loss. The Bulldogs now stand at 1-5-1 in the SCAC.

TLU put four shots on goal, but CC keeper Theo Hooker turned away all four.

Bulldog keeper Brendan Soto made seven saves in goal.

CC held a 16-12 lead in shots and had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal.

TLU hosts matches next Friday and Sunday as part of the Bulldogs' Homecoming weekend. The Bulldogs host Centenary (La.) at 7 p.m. Friday and Austin College at 2 p.m. Sunday.
